These kantha jackets are made from old vintage kantha quilts. “Kantha” refers to the tiny hand stitch that village women use to sew different pieces of fabric together into the patchwork that becomes the quilt. The quilts are often repaired and patched again by hand. This is part of the charm and unique quality of the quilts. Everything has been upcycled and repurposed. These so called “defects” in the quilts are what make them special, as it gives the garment made from them a feeling of having passed through many loving hands. Hands that repaired instead of discarding. Hands that recycled and repurposed previously discarded used fabrics.
